Hibiscus tea is a herbal tea made as an infusion from crimson or deep magenta-coloured sepal of the roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) flower. It is consumed both hot and cold. It has a cranberry-like flavour, and sugar is often added to sweeten it. The tea contains vitamin C and minerals and is used traditionally as a mild medicine.

The hibiscus flower are used to make drinks and for medicinal purposes. Hibiscus flower juice is quite popular for its colour tanginess and mild flavor. The plant is known to have antihypertensive properties and as a diuretic mild laxative and treatments for cardiac and nerve diseases and cancer


  • In food field: it is used as food addictive to make tea, soup, syrup and beverages which are rich in vitamin C
  • In pharmaceutical field: it contains anthocyanins which can eliminate free radicals, alleviate aging
  • In cosmetic field : If applied in cosmetics, it's anthocyamins can be made into varieties of preparation such as antibacterial agents digestive and Laxative
  • It can also be added into wines champagnes.

Hibiscus flower are mostly used in herbal tea for it has a reputation for cooling effects on the body . It is also used to treat dandruff and stimulate hair growth, it can also be used to treat hemorrhage and wound. It is mild laxative and contains vitamin c and malic acid.

There are four grades
Grade A: 2-5% broken flowers
Grade B: 2-25% of broken flowers
Grade C: 100% broken flowers (sifting)
Grade  D : fine cut or tea cut sizes
